Guests in Absentia in July & August at Acadia & Black Dog!

If you're new to Orkestar Bez Ime and haven't been following why we're (peeing our pants) excited about this summer, let me help you catch up: We received a McKnight Fellowship for Performing Musicians last year, and rather than blowing it on bills and whatnot, we decided it would be better used for enrolling the band in the Amala School in Valjevo, Serbia, where we get to study Romany ("gypsy") music and culture for a glorious two weeks!

"But where does that leave OBI's two awesome monthly series?" you ask.

Well.

We're fortunate in that we have so many talented musical friends who so kindly agreed to step in for us while we're in Eastern Europe. YAY! We hope you'll enjoy them as much as we do (we wish we could join you, but, you know, we'll be in Serbia). So, for the next three series dates, may I introduce to you the line-up:

FRIDAY, JULY 13, "BOHEMIAN CARAVAN" AT ACADIA CAFE (MINNEAPOLIS):

The Dregs

Julie Johnson & the No-Accounts

THURSDAY, JULY 19, "OBI 3RD THURSDAY" AT BLACK DOG CAFE (ST. PAUL):

Ukrainian Village Band

FRIDAY, AUGUST 10, "BOHEMIAN CARAVAN" AT ACADIA CAFE (MINNEAPOLIS):

Mother Banjo

Ukrainian Village Band

You can also view the line-up info on our Shows page. All of these fantastic acts share OBI's love for music, emotion, dance (and danceability!), comedy, and beauty. Please show them your love, support, and generous tips to help them continue their art!

For our part, we'll be back in the saddle just in time for our 3rd Thursday series at the Black Dog on August 16th! (In fact, Matt, our bass player, is arriving that day! But please be kind; he may be playing under the influence of jetlag.) We don't know what we're going to sound like when we come back, but you can bet you'll hear a difference. We can't wait to bring back to you what we've learned!

Stay tuned right here for blog posts from our adventures in Serbia!
